The Mediating Effect of Self-Compassion on the Relationship between Attachment Injury and Somatization of Middle-Aged Adults

Abstract
Objectives: This study investigates the mediating effect of self-compassion on the relationship between attachment injury and somatization of middle-aged adults.

Methods: A total of 311 middle-aged adults participated in the study, and the collected data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro 3.1.

Results: The study results are as follows: First, attachment injury and somatization showed significant positive correlation, whereas there are negative correlations between attachment injury and self-compassion, and between self-compassion and somatization. Second, self-compassion and all sub-factors of self-compassion also had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between attachment injury and somatization.

Conclusions:The results of this study suggest that counseling intervention plans to increase self-compassion are proposed for clients who complain of somatization due to attachment injury.
